Plan your Trip – Peanut Island Dec 07

We know that Singer Island is all the island paradise you need, with miles of soft beach, scenic greenery and the inviting accommodations of Hilton Singer Island Oceanfront Resort. But we also know that some guests like to see it all.

If that’s you, then your Singer Island vacation isn’t complete without a visit to Peanut Island in the Intracoastal Waterway. This charming 79-acre island is not technically manmade, although it wouldn’t exist in its current form without human interference. Dredging projects starting as far back as the 1930s slowly revealed this coastal beauty in what is now called the Lake Worth Inlet. However, it wasn’t until 2005 that Peanut Island was renovated to serve as a public park and campgrounds.

Peanut Island

Make a day of it a Peanut Island. The park offers year-round boating (it’s a must for you sailors), fishing (24 hours a day, in fact), and sublime swimming and snorkeling. During the season, Memorial Day to the first local school day in August, swimming and snorkeling lagoons are lifeguarded daily. During the off-season, lifeguards are on duty weekends only, but the areas remain open sunrise to sunset.

If you’re not so aquatically inclined, there’s plenty of sightseeing all around the island, with breathtaking views from the 280-foot reef boardwalk. Cameras wanted!

Here’s maybe my favorite part. Adding to the island getaway appeal, Peanut Island is accessible only by watercraft. No inbound roads whatsoever. If you plan to take advantage of the fine boating facilities throughout the island, you’re all set. But if you left your yacht back at the house, no worries. There’s a simple, fun way to get to Peanut Island.

The Palm Beach Water Taxi, which we’ve mentioned before, provides daily shuttle to Peanut Island for only $10 per person. We don’t even think of it as transportation. No island excursion is complete with a coastal cruise, so we absolutely think of it as part of the experience. The Water Taxi leaves out of Sailfish Marina, learn more.

Again, I’m not sure you could get tired of the vibrant scenery just steps from the Hilton Singer Island Resort. But if you’re looking to mix it up on your Palm Beach vacation, you can’t go wrong with a daytrip to always pleasant Peanut Island.

Have fun!

Pet-Friendly Hotels in Florida – Hilton Singer Island Mar 23

As we said earlier, we believe that Singer Island and West Palm Beach should offer thrilling South Florida adventures for the whole family, and we mean the whole family. That’s why Hilton Singer Island Oceanfront Resort is among the most pet-friendly hotels in the Palm Beaches. Here are the facts straight from the Web site:

Large dogs are allowed, with a maximum weight of 75 lbs, and both beds and food/water bowls may be provided as available. While there is a $75 non-refundable accommodations fee, we’re happy to charge no additional service fees. Just try finding that on Singer Island!

Not to mention, this is much more than a great place to stay. This is a fantastic destination for getting out and having a fun time with your dog. Here are just three of many options throughout Singer Island, the Palm Beaches and South Florida:

Pet Friendly Hotels in Florida

MacArthur Beach State Park
10900 Jack Nicklaus Drive
North Palm Beach

Just a few minutes from our Palm Beach hotel, MacArthur Beach State Park is a sprawling 325-acre nature park and beach ideal for picnics and play. While dogs are not allowed on the beach or boardwalks, there are still plenty of easy, scenic nature trails to explore with your four-legged friend. Leash Required.

Lake Trail in Palm Beach
Quadrille Bridge at the Waterway
Palm Beach

This popular bike trail along the Intracoastal Waterway is paved and offers incredible views of the waterway and upscale Palm Beach neighborhoods, along with plenty of room for your animal to walk. Dogs are allowed, but this is no park, so be respectful of bikers and other pedestrians.

Pooch Pines at Okeeheelee Park
7715 Forest Hill Boulevard
West Palm Beach

This nearby option in West Palm Beach is what you’ve really been looking for: an off-leash dog park where your dog can really be his or herself. This well-equipped facility features two large dog sections, a small dog section, paved doggy wash station, shaded sitting areas, fido fountains, and plenty more. Like most dog parks, the rules are strict but have the safety and wellbeing of animals and their owners in mind. Dogs must not be aggressive, must be vaccinated and must be registered.

Of course, there’s plenty more for you dog-lovers to find, but this is a good start for any South Florida family vacation when it’s really the whole family who’s along for the ride.

Lion Country Safari Named #3 US Zoo by USA Travel Guide Mar 06

Lion Country Safari

A recent report by our sister blog, USA Travel Guide, named perennial Palm Beach favorite Lion Country Safari the #3 zoo in the United States. The park, founded in 1967 and notable as America’s very first safari-style cageless zoo, achieved this ranking amid stiff competition, besting the Philadelphia Zoo, Cincinnati Zoo, Phoenix Zoo, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and others, while trailing only the Columbus Zoo and the San Diego Zoo.

The report rewards the individuality of the experience, continuing to say it is “still the best.” You can view the entire report here.

A considerable departure from traditional zoos, Lion Country Safari allows guests to drive a four-plus mile road over open savannah where animals including giraffes, alpaca and zebras roam freely and close encounters are a regular occurrence. After exploring the drive-thru park, guests can finish their trip with a stroll through a fun-filled walking park complete with additional animal exhibits and carnival rides. Learn more about Lion Country Safari at their Web site.

Visit West Palm Beach and the Hilton Singer Island Oceanfront Resort for relaxing accommodations only a few miles out from the Lion Country Safari. Our current “Kids Are King” Package features up to two complimentary tickets.

South Florida Adventures – Palm Beach Water Taxi Mar 04

Palm Beach Water Taxi

You want to get away! You want to forget about that daily grind, those bills, the kids screaming, dogs barking, the wail of police sirens, the ringing of phones, the boisterous clatter of everyday life. And all that traffic? Who needs it! Here at Singer Island in West Palm Beach there’s a better way to see the world. When even transportation is bliss, you know you’ve truly gotten away.

That’s why we love the Palm Beach Water Taxi. Embarking all day, every day from the Sailfish Marina, only two miles from the Hilton Singer Island Resort, the Palm Beach Water Taxi is a fast, convenient, and enjoyable option for either exploring the coast or simply getting one place to the next.

Tours: It’s your first day, and options are limitless, so get a feel for Singer Island and the Palm Beaches with a narrated sightseeing cruise that’s as fascinating as it is relaxing. The Taxi is currently offering a nostalgic “Now and Then” Cruise rich with tales of the area’s longstanding love affair with the rich and famous. The fun 90-minute cruise completes its voyage at Clematis St., the perfect place to disembark for an afternoon of shopping and sightseeing, not to mention finding a great meal.

Shuttle Service: The tour is lovely, but sometimes you just need a quick trip. The Palm Beach Water Taxi offers quick shuttle service to Peanut Island and Clematis Street for a discounted rate. Peanut Island is of special interest, because you can only reach the island by boat. Newly-renovated, it’s a charming place to swim, snorkel, camp out or enjoy an old-fashioned picnic.

The company employs several 20-passenger vessels as well as a couple 49-passenger Corinthian Catamarans, all piloted by U.S. Coast Guard-licensed Captains.

For something truly special – weddings, honeymoons, romantic evenings – private charters are available. Nothing like a moonlight cruise with just the two of you for popping the question.

For more information about services and pricing, visit their Web site.

Have a great time!
