Palm Beach Fall Festivals – Oktoberfest Oct 08

Dust off those beer steins and “tap” to the beat of polka because tonight’s all about the brats and brews.

Tonight at Cityplace in West Palm Beach, the kick-off starts for one of the largest German celebrations in the country. Join the German-American Club of the Palm Beaches for a polka-party just as it should be. Guests at the Hilton Singer Island Oceanfront Resort will have direct access to the frontlines of fun.

oktoberfestFor two weekends, Oktoberfest will bring in many more imports into Lake Worth, Florida than normal. Envision Munich’s Oktoberfest on a much smaller scale and you’re prepared. If not, here’s a run down of what to plan for over the weekend.

Oktoberfest will run October 9 1 11, 2009 and October 16 – 18, 2009, rain or shine on ten acres of tummy tumbling and clog-kickin’ fun. While there will be plenty to do for adults and kids (of all ages) including kiddy carnival rides, arts and crafts, there’s a little more to the main showcase.

Authentic food and brews will be brought in and include: bratwurst, leberkase, German pastries, sauerkraut, potato salads and directly imported Original Hofbrau Bier from Munich.

Entertainment will include traditional folk dancing performances, booths by vendors and craftsmen, a specified ‘kids zone’, Biergarten, and the headliners? Two bands to conduct sing-alongs straight from Munich’s very own Oktoberfest.

Two more must-sees during this event are the Parade of Flags and the Beer-Tapping Ceremony. And should you show up for the festivities, you’ll have a chance to win a free trip from Miami to Germany from AirBerlin.

Palm Beach Dining – Michael R. McCarty’s Jun 26

You might not expect a native New Yorker to forgo the boom and bustle of the city that never sleeps for one that’s full of beachfront bums and a gnarly night scene.

This one did.

Tropical breezes and swaying palms are quite the shift in scenery from a life lived in the Big Apple where commuters on foot can travel faster than four wheels, and it’s exactly what the Michael McCarty, owner of Michael R. McCarty’s Restaurant and Saloon, did.

The restaurant bearing his name has long become one of the few prestigious places to pop in and see in Palm Beach. An experienced restaurateur, it wasn’t until 2002 that McCarty purchased Dempsey’s to redesign, and redefine dining elegance and prestige by opening the restaurant after his own name.

It all started with his first visit with friends to Palm Beach in 1973 – so stricken by South Florida’s tropical beauty, he returned annually up until his purchase and opening of the restaurant.

Its traditional home-cooked dishes, friendly staff and healthy crowd of familiar regulars are world renowned. The outdoor terrace is a charming touch to an establishment comprised of British Colonial décor, with the beach breeze at your back and the moonlight night overhead. Unique to the restaurant, too, is “Rory’s” the restaurant’s bar and sitting room, covered in pink patent leather couches and cushioned chairs. Both the terrace and Rory’s are as available and prepared for romping regulars or the rental of private parties, be they for lunch, dinner, or solely celebration! See pictures and menus here.

Whether or not you’ve got a picky palette, there’s something to tickle your taste buds – even if you opt for a scrumptious soufflé or the freshest seafood and steak. Get yourself a rack of lamb, the Grilled Atlantic Salmon or if you’re after something from down home, try the Homemade Meatloaf. Or if you’ve got the need to sate your sweet tooth, Bread Pudding and Allie’s Cupcakes will serve you just as fine as the staff in a relaxed, refreshingly unique elegance that suits the Palm Beach people, visitors or native.

Pick a wicker seat and kick your feet up for some fun with friends, or make some new ones. Michael R. McCarty’s is open from 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. serving brunch, lunch, and dinner. Drinks are served until 3:00 a.m.

Palm Beach Attractions – The Square Grouper/Castaways Marina Jun 01

the square grouper and castaways marinaFans of sippin’ on somethin’ early at the beach or any bar, and Hilton Singer Island Oceanfront Resort guests can agree, this place is something to see.

Though it’s no Ta-boo, This Tiki bar will tickle you pink when you’ll find yourself familiar with its claim to fame – The Square Grouper and Castaways Marina is precisely the point on the map where Jimmy Buffet and Alan Jackson recorded “It’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere.”

“Cast away” your worries and toss your friends a line while you wait on your drink from this quirky little beer bar, or have something special poured for you from a Gatorade cooler – it’s “cooler” like that, don’tcha know.

Reggae rumbas with country (credit to more Buffet tunes) over the heads of the crowd that collects around this little treasure amidst the palm trees. Regular drink specials and live music is scheduled for patrons, as well as frequent special events for fundraisers and benefits. There’s nothing like having a beer with Buffet on the boat to benefit the Jupiter Beach or Lighthouse.

Although it’s not some place you’ll find suits and ties, you’ll find a good time and taste the tune of Jackson and Buffet’s carefree jive only complimented by the view of the waving water and Jupiter Lighthouse.

With white sand beneath your toes and boats with buoys bobbing feet away, raise your glass to memories present and past; recline even if just for a minute to say you’ve seen the birthplace of the duo’s lush-lover tune after you tether your boat.

If you stop by for lunch, if and when you’re told it’s “too early” for a boozy brew, tell ‘em it doesn’t matter if it’s high noon ’cause it’s 5 o’clock somewhere.

Palm Beach Local Attractions – Palm Beach Princess Casino Cruise May 14

palm beach princess casino cruiseBelieve it or not, there’s a place that combines food, fun, and frivolity – all on the water.

Whether you’re in town at the Hilton Singer Island’s Oceanfront Resort or up for cruising the coast, we’re showing you our best hand. Throw some money at your honey or into the luck of the draw when you board the Palm Beach Princess Casino Cruise. That’s right, a cruise AND a casino.

15,000 square feet encompass the cruise line’s casino boasting Blackjack, Roulette, Poker, Craps and slots to suit your fancy for a roll of the dice or drawing from the deck. Departing from the Palm Beach port, the cruise line offers a duo of dips into the pocket: 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The casino opens, however, only when the ship is 3 miles off shore, generally around 11:15 a.m. and 7:15 p.m. per their respective trips.

Never fear, my dears – when you’re not pulling the lever to spin your pennies and nickels, there’s other fun to be had. Not only does the cruise line tout its vast variety of casino games, there’s more. Live entertainment is regularly featured, as well as Bingo, swing dancing, swimming, and a pool bar. If you get a cramp taking “craps” shots down the tables, there’s massage therapy for that, too.

Reservations are not required and the classiest dress is the evening’s cocktail casual – when you’re looking to rock the boat, “cruising” Palm Beach is your best bet.

Bad gambling puns aside, a casino cruise from Palm Beach’s port is worth investing your time and the best part? You won’t have to chance a good time.

Rates vary, please see the Web site for rate and contact information.
