One of the holidays that’s always a blast, no matter where you are in the continental U.S., is July 4th – Independence Day.
The quintessential American holiday, for any of you that aren’t “Yankee” readers, commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 – did you know it wasn’t declared a legal holiday until 1941?
Another quirky fact for you – the American National Anthem the “Star-Spangled Banner” is set to the tune of an old English drinking song, “To Anacreon in Heaven”.
And while things heat up here in Texas, festivities are firing up all over the nation for an all day (and sometimes all weekend) party-hardy for the nation’s freedom all those years ago. In particular, South Floridians in Palm Beach have the 4th on Flagler 2009 to look forward to, and it’s expected to be booming with a crowd as big as its fireworks display.
Some 100,000 people are expected to turn out to the area’s biggest party beneath the palms, which will stretch on Flagler Drive from Fern Street to Lakeview Avenue, as well as in Trinity Park.
Two stages will be set up for nightlong entertainment (including live performances and a DJ stage for those who brought their dancing shoes) and the lineup includes the national recording artist, Kevin Rudolf.
Fun won’t be hard to find, no matter your age. There’s a place set aside strictly for the kiddos and their entertainment and when it comes to fireworks? You won’t have to worry about height being an issue for a good spot to see the show – spend your Fourth of July with open ears, an open mind and wide eyes and what better way to do all three than for FREE?
While I’m roasting burgers, you beach buffs will be toasting twilight with the area’s biggest bash. Whether your idea of fun’s a cookout in the backyard and barbecue, or booming fireworks displays (without the city limits tickets), celebrate the holiday safely and be sure to take all precaution and preventative measures if you decide to set off your own set of sparks.
