South Florida Festivals – Biketoberfest 2009 Oct 07

Gentlemen and ladies, start your engines.

Haul out on your hogs. Break out the Big Dogs. Have it your way with your Harley.

From October 15 – 18, 2009 Daytona Beach will welcome back its award winning festival, Biketoberfest. Thousands of bikes will be rumbling as they roll into Daytona, and some of the finest will cruise the Daytona International Speedway.

The weekend will be booming with plenty of fun and food for all ages. Men and women who still like their toys big and loud will be in veritable “hog” heaven. Motorcycle “hogs”, not the curly tailed kind in case you needed clarification.

Top manufacturers will be offering demonstrations on some of their newest machines, shows and rallies will showcase both vintage and custom-made bikes and more action to come on the track itself.

In addition to all the “exhaust”ing excitement, live music will be served up as standard fare with endless amounts of food ripe for the feasting.

Different venues mean different activities, so plan on making it a weekend adventure. Or, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, an extended weekend.

In addition to motorcycle shows, there’ll be a muscle car feature, a Gibson guitar give-away, a Hooters Bikini Contest and appearances from some big names. Drop in to see Charlie Daniels, or Vince Neil of Motley Crue.

We’re sure you won’t be short of things (or people) to see over the weekend and worth a visit for the experience alone, we hope to see you down in Daytona Beach for Biketoberfest. What better way to roll out Fall with a fierce festival like this one?

Daytona Beach FL – Lighthouse Point Park Sep 03

Just because the kids are back in school and summer’s coming to a close doesn’t mean you have to give up on summer fun.

Geared toward nature lovin’ couples and familes with wide-eyed, wondering kiddos, here’s a little something to mix history with great views and a fresh ocean breeze.

Ponce Inlet’s Lighthouse Point Park boasts 52 acres of pristine and natural landscape with plenty to do. Whether you want a relaxing weekend escape or an adventurous one, Point Park encourages fishing, swimming, picnics, beach biking and surfing, too.

Just south of Daytona Beach stands the regal lighthouse at 175 feet, arguably one of Florida’s tallest lighthouses. Dating back to 1887, the lighthouse and its museum with a gift shop reflect the architectural style of the late 1800s. Not to mention, it’s a National Historic Landmark.

With an observation deck and tower, you’re able to get an entirely new perspective on the Atlantic and Halifax River, and life. There’s something refreshing about a full-face of ocean breeze and the tranquility of teetering heights.

This quaint, quiet town with an untainted landscape of beach and greenery is a favorite for locals and the enlightened visitors yearly.

Admission to the park is a meager $3.50 per vehicle, not per person. And personally, it’s little to exchange for a chance at a day stretched out on the beach having your toes tickled by the surf.

In such a pretty park, though it’s advised you don’t take flowers for a souvenir, the museum gift shop offers lighthouse lamps, ornaments and even nautical baubles and items.

Take the time out from city livin’ to see a little bit of something natural – it’s worth your sanity and serenity.
