With miles of pristine beach and sublime weather almost every day, it’s easy to forget the South Florida and the Palm Beaches deliver plenty of seasonal fun. And right now, it’s our favorite season!
Highlight the holiday by checking out all the spooks and kooks at Fright Nights, hosted at the South Florida Fairgrounds in West Palm Beach. Something like five or six attractions in one, Fright Nights welcomes the whole family with three adult-oriented haunted houses, multiple scare zones, side attractions and the kid-friendly Spookyville.
The non-wusses should head straight for the haunts. All three houses deliver creepily fascinating atmosphere and a few gruesome moments to go with. “Next of Kin” is a The Hills Have Eyes-style nightmare set in a town ravaged by a family of mutants. Our favorite, “Origins”, takes you on a disturbing journey into the life history of a serial killer. This is the only haunt I’ve ever seen tackle the subject from this angle. Very cool.
For the kids, Spookyville offers a frightless, Halloween themed village packed with games, rides, craft stations and plenty of trick or treating. Families and costumes welcome.
Both attractions are connected to the carnival midway featuring classic carnival rides and games (separate cost, depending on tickets).
Fright Nights runs for six more nights, tomorrow Thursday through Saturday, and then again next week Thursday to Saturday. You can do all the houses once for $15, or purchase up to the $25 wristband and do all the houses once then head to the midway for unlimited rides. Your call. Learn more.
