Timeless tragedy will always have a certain allure and arguably one of the most famous is the sinking of the Titanic (now a famed motion picture, too).
Orlando is no stranger to top-notch technology and collections of thrills, and though it’s most often synonymous with Disneyworld, the playground for kids and parents alike, there’s much more to the sprawling city than most imagine.
Without harping too much of Titanic’s heartbreaking, and historical dive into the deep, it stands as an event emblazoned into the memories of countless generations even if they themselves weren’t affected.
Titanic: The Exhibition is the first “permanent” Titanic exhibit in the world.
The exhibition itself is a grand collection of priceless artifacts, some of which are being put on display for the first time from some of the most prestigious, and private collections. Full-scale environments set to various scenes serve as recreations of the ship’s rooms, the most notably of which is the prestigious Grand Staircase, and are accompanied by storytellers dressed in period clothing at strategic places for interactive interpretations.
One of the many costumes worn by actor Leonardo DiCaprio in the major motion picture is one of the pieces included in the exhibit’s collection. With over 200 artifacts from collections so generously contributed for the exhibit’s showcase, the only full-scale room recreations have something special and unique to flaunt, and do so proudly.
The exhibit space, itself, is also available for those wishing to rent it to take their “special” event to another level of historic.
Located at Orlando’s Mercado Mediterranean Village on International Drive, Titanic: The Exhibit welcomes visitors from 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. daily. Admission for patrons 13 and older: $16.95, children 6-12: $11.95, children 5 and under admitted free.
And while you’re in the area? The Mercado is a must-shop and see, with over 60 different specialty shops, restaurants worthy of wooing your palate, and nightlife to rival the pseudo-European cobblestone and character implied by its Mediterranean styling. Better yet, it’s free to park and if you’re staying at the Holiday Inn Orlando International Drive, both the complex and the hotel have complimentary shuttles to save you time, and stress.
Admission prices do not include tax. Please call the hotel (407) 351-3500 and exhibit (407) 248-1166 for more information.
