A recent report by our sister blog, USA Travel Guide, named perennial Palm Beach favorite Lion Country Safari the #3 zoo in the United States. The park, founded in 1967 and notable as America’s very first safari-style cageless zoo, achieved this ranking amid stiff competition, besting the Philadelphia Zoo, Cincinnati Zoo, Phoenix Zoo, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and others, while trailing only the Columbus Zoo and the San Diego Zoo.
The report rewards the individuality of the experience, continuing to say it is “still the best.” You can view the entire report here.
A considerable departure from traditional zoos, Lion Country Safari allows guests to drive a four-plus mile road over open savannah where animals including giraffes, alpaca and zebras roam freely and close encounters are a regular occurrence. After exploring the drive-thru park, guests can finish their trip with a stroll through a fun-filled walking park complete with additional animal exhibits and carnival rides.
